Han Mac Tu (September 22, 1912 - November 11, 1940) born at Le My village, Dong Hoi city, was really named after Nguyen Trong Tri. His pen names included: Minh Duệ, Phong Trần, Lệ Thanh, and finally Hàn Mặc Tử, by which name is known today. His most famous poetic works included “Le Thanh poem anthology”, “Rustic girl” and “Lady Spring”.

At 13, he began attending a French lycée in Hue, but was expelled after two years for organizing a student strike. He later attended the University of Hanoi where he gained a bachelor’s degree in political economy and law in 1937
